Founded in 1983, NAS is turning 40 this year. When we came together as a team to think about how we wanted to honor this milestone, we decided that for us, this moment is about reflection, connection, and celebration. And you – the NAS community – are an important part of that. So join us as we connect, reflect, and celebrate 40 years of NAS!
40(ish) Lessons in 40 Years
Learning is the very essence of who we are and what we do. We create spaces for arts and culture leaders to learn and grow, and as a team we are constantly questioning, exploring, and evaluating. While any and all of us would love to share a cup of tea and talk about whatever’s on our minds on any given day, we’re not always the best at pausing and articulating what we’re learning and thinking about as an organization in ways that others can consume and be in dialogue with. We know we’re not alone in that either. So we’re challenging ourselves to use this milestone towards this end: an opportunity to reflect and create content for our community that shares more about what we’re learning and how we’re growing along the way. A Conversation With The NAS Board
Developing and managing a Board of Directors is something a lot of nonprofits struggle with. We’ve struggled with it ourselves at NAS, and we’re incredibly proud of the way our board has evolved over the years. As part of NAS’ 40th birthday celebration this year we sat down with a few of our board members to discuss the evolution and share some insight where the field can learn from and build off our experiences.

Celebrate On Us!
As a community, we love getting together (y’all sold out Homecoming last year, stay tuned for Homecoming 2024 details)! That’s why NAS is offering a limited number of $40 gift cards for any two or more alumni that gather to celebrate. You can meet up for a meal, head to a local arts and culture event… whatever feels celebratory to you. Celebrations Across NAS
One lesson we’ve learned over the years is that moments of celebration are important. It’s easy to get so caught up in the day-to-day that we don’t pause to take stock and enjoy the accomplishments. We’re putting that lesson into practice in celebrating this milestone. At every in-person gathering with our community, we’re going to celebrate. And we’re celebrating as a team too! There have been and will continue to be cakes, hats, and other silliness to give us all an opportunity to pause and enjoy this moment – honoring all the wonderful things we’ve done and learned the last 40 years, and all that’s in store in the years to come!
