Getting to Know Winnie: From Stage to Service

Winnie Ho

Growing up in Oakland, California, Winnie learned early on what it meant to use her voice. Even in high school, she was drawn to student advocacy and creating spaces where art can thrive. As a first-generation college student, Chinese American, and the youngest of four, her roots and family’s refugee journey shaped her perspective on identity and art.

College offered her the breathing space to connect with her Asian identity differently than she had at home, and explore how personal and cultural experiences intertwine. At Georgetown, she pursued Theatre and Performance and a certificate in Asian Studies, diving deep into the intersection of politics and performance as a powerful place for storytelling and social change. Her senior thesis, a play exploring the mother-daughter relationship through themes of trauma and parallel worlds, was important for her personal reflection and cathartic.

While still at university, Winnie worked with The Laboratory for Global Performance and Politics in D.C., where she deepened her understanding of how art can serve as both advocacy and diplomacy. These experiences and her realization that the lessons she learned were universal – not isolating – naturally align with her role now as Program & Communications Associate at NAS.

At NAS, Winnie brings a thoughtful curiosity, a global lens, and a drive to keep learning. She’s excited to contribute to a team that values care, creativity, and exploration. Outside of work, she’s rediscovering hobbies beyond school life such as reading, hiking, and trying out new recipes. Her friends affectionately call her “Flying Squirrel,” a nod to her buzzing energy and warmth. Looking ahead, she’s interested in possibly pursuing a master’s in arts and diplomacy to continue advocating for arts and culture on a global stage.

Deep thinker, lover of long conversations, and someone who thrives in meaningful connection…Winnie is the perfect addition to the NAS team and reminds us that art, identity, and community are deeply intertwined. We’re thrilled to welcome her to the team!
