Applied Learning

NAS seminars introduce powerful frameworks for addressing the operational and environmental challenges you face in your organization. Applied Learning services are structured, concise engagements that build on the seminar content and help you apply key concepts from the seminar to your unique circumstances. These services also help to introduce the seminar concepts to a larger team or to your entire organization.

Applied Learning increases the value of the investment you've already made in executive education by helping you to apply those concepts with experts who know the seminar concepts, and have years of experience working in and with all types of cultural organizations. Applied Learning engagements include one to three days of on-site facilitation and can be customized to fit the specific interest and circumstances for your organization.

As part of the Business of Arts and Culture, these engagements are provided at a highly subsidized price for a limited number of days. If you are interested in this service, please contact us as soon as possible. Applied Learning services relate to specific frameworks and concepts covered in each seminar and are customized to address the specific interests of your organization. Here are a few examples of Applied Learning services that are commonly requested.

Managing People: Strategic Alignment Exercise

This engagement helps you deepen the analysis you began in the seminar and further evaluate the congruence between your culture, people, and formal policies. Through an engaging review of the frameworks and two facilitated exercises, your team will establish a process and language that your organization can use to adjust internally to changes in strategy. In organizations with internal divisions focused on different tasks and strategic goals, the exercise can be extended to examine the different systems and cultures that coexist under the same roof. Ultimately, the alignment process helps identify choices that affect organizational goals and reinforces the power and focus of your organization?s greatest strategic asset - its people.

Creative Alliances: Network Mapping

In this engagement, NAS staff will lead your organization through an examination of your organizational networks to produce insights for current and future action. Through concept review and facilitated exercises, you create "network maps," and link them to your overall strategy. The network mapping sessions identify areas of strategic strength and weakness within your current networks, and help you plan and begin actions that strengthen your partnership positions.

Strategy: Framework Review

In this engagement, NAS senior staff will lead your organization through a deeper examination of your environment and strategy choices. These sessions help you recognize areas of current strategic strength and weakness, help you determine actions that improve your positioning, and instill a common language among your key staff and board members that can lead to new insights. Based upon your needs, you can choose to focus on one of the following areas covered in the seminar:

  • Industry Analysis
  • Mission Review
  • Strategy, Logic, and Resource Allocation
