PRESENTED MARCH 2, 2010
During hard times, it’s critical that you be able to use the social capital of your board and staff to move your organization forward. But when everyone is pushed to capacity, how can your team quickly and strategically evaluate relationships with current and potential stakeholders and keep the most valuable networks alive and useful? In this online, small group discussion participants explored their questions about how to effectively build and use their organization’s connections with Professor Walter W. Powell of Stanford University.
Professor Powell has done extensive work in the areas of nonprofit studies, inter-organizational collaboration and the growing salience of networks and alliances in innovation processes. He began the conversation by sharing a framework for understanding the affect of the economic climate on organizational networks. Participants spent the rest of the hour discussing methods for understanding network strength and structure and how to make the most of the social capital of their entire organization.
