Sustainable Power and Influence

Leaders spend most of their time trying to influence others – their staff, their colleagues, their board and their funders. But, how do you get results from people with different work styles? How do you create messages that move people to action? How do you use your network to advance your influence… all while avoiding dysfunctional politics?

Faculty

How you will benefit

This session will give you the tools to use your power and influence to advance your personal goals as well as the goals of your organization and your community.  You will also develop a personal action plan that will help you immediately implement the tools you learn in a practical way. By the end of this session, you will be able to:

  • Use your personal communication style as an asset to help influence others
  • Choose which influence strategies are likely to gain the support of others
  • Recognize influence strategies that are not in your best interests
  • Develop and leverage your personal and professional networks

What to expect

This engaging session will include the use of self-assessments and classroom exercises to create an interactive learning experience.  Fellows can expect the classroom experience they would find in an executive-level session at any of the country’s top business schools.

Who should attend

The Future Leadership program is designed to help the next wave of arts and culture professionals develop the skills they will need to excel in top management positions in the next five to seven years. This event is appropriate for:

  • Mid-career professionals, with 5-15 years of experience in the field interested in advancing to the next level of leadership
  • Professionals who have just come into a leadership role in a smaller organization and are interested in pursuing additional formalized training
  • Professionals working their way up through larger institutions interested in understanding the politics and paths of advancement and in expanding their professional networks
