News + Updates: Russell Willis Taylor Theme

NAS in Chile, Hong Kong and New York City

The year is off to a busy start for National Arts Strategies. This week, several of our team are on the road, sharing leadership ideas and experiences with colleagues around the globe.

President and CEO Russell Willis Taylor is currently representing NAS at the International Federation of Arts Councils and Culture Agencies World Summit on Arts and Culture, January 13-16 in Santiago de Chile. At the Summit, Russell will leading sessions on professional development.

Vice President and COO Gail Crider is in Hong Kong this week for the Leadership Training Program for Senior Arts and Culture Executives, a custom program designed by NAS in partnership with the Hong Kong Arts Administrators Association and supported by the Hong Kong Arts Development Council. The program is designed to help senior arts and culture executives explore the toughest strategic challenges facing their organizations, access the best thinking from outside the cultural sector and apply those concepts and frameworks in their own organizations and communities.

Finally, Fielding Grasty, NAS’ Director, Programs, will be attending the International Society for the Performing Arts Congress in New York  January 14-16. ISPA Honors Russell Willis Taylor

The International Society for the Performing Arts has honored National Arts Strategies President and CEO Russell Willis Taylor with their International Citation of Merit. The award was presented January 16 in New York in recognition of Mrs. Taylor’s work. Read more »

The International Citation of Merit is presented to leaders in the field for their “unique lifetime achievement which has enriched the international performing arts” and for “distinguished service working within the profession.” The entire NAS Team heartily congratulates Mrs. Taylor on this honor!


NAS President and CEO to speak at Federal Reserve Conference

On May 14, Russell Willis Taylor, President and CEO of National Arts Strategies, will be presenting a talk on the Art of Survival at the annual conference held at the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia. Other featured speakers will include Ben Bernanke, Chairman of the Federal Reserve.

Russell’s remarks will look at new business models being developed by the nonprofit arts community, and how the arts have a role to play in helping cities redefine their identities and address the widening gap between rich and poor in the United States. In our new search for meaning following the economic downturn, she believes that the arts are an essential community compass.
