Summit for Change: Building a Movement

Event Description

The Summit for Change: Building a Movement is the final convening of the Chief Executive Program. Our time together is divided into two parts: faculty-led skill building and leader-driven knowledge sharing.

Nora Silver, Founder and Faculty Director of the Center for Social Sector Leadership at the Berkeley Haas School of Business, will lead us through a process of studying and applying large scale social change. Our goal is to put more tools and thinking in the hands of ethical and responsible arts and cultural leaders, like you, to use to affect positive change in the world. Some of the Chief Executive Program alumni will join us for this. Alumni are getting together to reconnect, gain new tools and to form important, lasting connections with your cohort.

For part two, you set the agenda. You will engage in a collaborative process that takes the focus away from classroom learning and emphasizes what wisdom you can pass on to each other. You will have the opportunity to work closely with your cohort, sharing your ideas and questions on the issues that you tell us matter most.

Should you have any questions regarding the upcoming convening, please contact Carolyn Supinka at csupinka@artstrategies.org or 571-482-5789 x26.

Your room at Sundance Resort for the nights of November 12-14 has been reserved by NAS. Check-in time is 4 pm and check-out time is 11 am. Please call Sundance Resort at 800-892-1600 for more details. Bags can be checked with the bellman upon arrival, and will be put in your room at check-in time. Early check-ins may be available upon request. Please call the front desk for more details.

Sundance has extended the reduced-rate rooms to NAS participants before and after the event, on the nights of November 9-11 and November 15-17, should you wish to extend your reservation. If you plan to take advantage of an extra night at Sundance, call 1.866.259.7468 to extend your reservation and mention that you are booking as an NAS participant. This is a great opportunity to meet with small working groups or spend more time with your colleagues, or relax in beautiful Sundance.

*For international participants: we know you are traveling a great distance. To ensure that you are able to arrive in time to join us at the start of the program, we have arranged an extra night's stay for you at Sundance the night of November 11. Please contact Carolyn Supinka at 541-782-5489 x 26 or csupinka@artstrategies.org by August 1 if you do not plan on arriving on November 11.

Please note that the resort is located on mountainous terrain and at a high altitude (6100’/1859m) that may take some time for you to adjust to. Should you require a room that is closer to the base area of the resort, please make sure to let the reservations department know.

Wifi and Phone Lines

Each room is equipped with complimentary wireless internet service and a landline telephone.  Please note that the only consistent cell service at Sundance is AT&T.  All other services are spotty.  For more details on amenities, please see the Sundance website.

Getting to Sundance

The closest airport is Salt Lake City International Airport.  Please allow one hour to get from the airport to Sundance Resort.

Transportation

For car service, we recommend using Snow Country Limousine. To manage costs, we suggest that you coordinate travel with a group of colleagues. Due to the distance between the resort and the airport the cost of a ride is quite expensive and we greatly encourage you to coordinate travel together. The average cost for an SUV to the resort is $185 one way.

As a courtesy, NAS is happy to arrange group travel. By collecting flight information, we can reserve car service for those who are arriving/departing within the same hour. The total amount will be divided amongst the group and an invoice from Snow Country Limousine will be sent to you following the event. If you are interested in NAS arranging group travel for you, please email your flight information and a cell phone number to Carolyn Supinka, csupinka@artstrategies.org, by August 14.

Car Rental:

Renting a car to travel from the airport to Sundance is very convenient, and a great way to save costs. We highly recommend that you coordinate your travel with your colleagues and share the costs of a car rental to travel between Sundance and Salt Lake City Airport for the program. Sundance’s preferred car rental agency is Enterprise Rent-a-Car. For information on preferred corporate rates (starting at $42/day) please contact the Sundance concierge at 801.223.6000 or concierge@sundance-utah.com. Should you decide to rent a vehicle for the duration of your stay, choosing one with 4-wheel drive is recommended for the mountains during this time of year.

Attire

Please dress for comfort, keeping in mind that comfortable footwear is best for Sundance’s mountain terrain. You will be walking between buildings throughout the program. The Sundance campus offers a variety of recreational options including hiking, biking, and yoga, so please pack accordingly and check the resort website for an update on what recreational activities you can expect in November.

Bon Voyage!
Thank you for reviewing these notes and please feel free to reach out to Carolyn Supinka with any additional questions at csupinka@artstrategies.org or 571-482-5789 x26. We hope that you are as excited for Sundance as we are! Happy packing and safe travels
